Charitable Quilts

The Charitable Quilts Committee for Arapahoe County Quilters focuses on making quilts for local organization that help people in need.

We have many volunteers who participate in our efforts. We assemble kits with instructions for Arapahoe County Quilt members to sew into tops. We put together quilt sandwiches with tops, batting and backs ready for quilting. The quilting is done with a variety of quilting methods including free motion, continuous line and by longarm machine. We also have ACQ members that complete the quilt binding.

Many of the quilts are donated to safe shelters for the homeless, hospitals, and people who have suffered.

Several ACQ members volunteer to quilt our charitable quilts.

Current Charity Projects

Clermont Commons

ACQ collects lap sized quilts (red, white, and blue preferred) and donates them to Clermont Commons transitional housing for women veterans experiencing homelessness. The Clermont Commons program assists women Veterans and their children for up to 24 months with supportive housing, case management, and resources with the goal of helping each client secure a permanent and sustainable housing situation. During their time in the program, Volunteers of America houses participants at the Volunteers of America Family Motel or Clermont Commons, three beautiful five-bedroom transitional homes in Denver for women Veterans and their children.

Donor Alliance

Quilts for donor families of Colorado and Wyoming to honor the family member making an organ and/or tissue donation.  The quilt is draped over the donor until the final goodbyes have been said and then the quilt is given to the family.

If you are intersted in making a quilt for Donor Alliance, please make a small quilt that is a minimum of 32" square and a maximum of 38" square. (36x36'' preferred) Any style, pieced, applique, or a panel with borders. They are especially interested in quilts for men. You can make the quilt top and it will be finished by volunteers.

Children's Hospital

We collect any crib size (35"x50") or lap size (45"x60"),

ideally in fun youthful prints and colors.  These quilts are donated to Children's Hospital in Aurora, Colorado.  These quilts provide warmth and comfort to children and their families during a time when they need it most.

Charity Quilt Photo Albums

ACQ members make small flannel blankets edged in lace which are given to the families who are experiencing a newborn loss, miscarriage or early infant death. Kits and instruction are provided for anyone who would like to help make these blankets.  Please pick up a kit at the monthly meetings or contact charityquilts@acqcolorado.org with questions.

We collect quilts of all types and sizes throughout the year to give to various other programs and people.  We accept donations of completed quilts and pieced quilt tops of any size. You can also pick up a quilted top and take it home to complete the binding.  If you have skills, we can find a place to use them.  Talk with any of our charity volunteers at the next quilt meeting to find out how you can help.
