MARCH 2008 UPDATE
Thanks to everyone who checked out a binding (16 of them) and a quilt kit (9 of
them) at the last meeting. The new patterns will be super simple to make and I
hope you enjoy doing something different. Thanks also to Lucy Rognes for the
batting and Bev French for the storage boxes. In the last newsletter I
mentioned king size batting if you are looking for something to donate but all
sizes (twin and queen) are useful too. Each pattern takes something different.
The new scrap bag project is making the coins for a Chinese Coin quilt. What
I'm asking you to do is go to your scraps and find 5 fabrics that are all in one
color family, are a variety of dark, medium and light, and that look good
together. This month we are looking for GREEN. Cut a 2 1/2" strip from each
fabric, arrange them in a manner that looks good to you and sew them together to
create a strip set. (See picture below) It works best if you sew one seam in
one direction and the next seam in the opposite direction. This will keep the
set from curving. Press all the seams in the same direction and bring the strip
set to the next meeting. We are looking for any color green--yellow green,
green, blue green. You may make as many sets as you have fabric and
inclination--the more the merrier. We will only do this for three months.
March is Green. April is Blue. May is Red. Keep this in mind when you go
through your scraps. The cutting elves will cut up the coin sets and make kits
from them and the background fabric from the ACQ stash and check them out for
completion. Have fun with this and use up some of your scraps!
