 Charitable Quilts

The Charitable Quilts Committee for Arapahoe County Quilters focuses on making quilts for local organizations including House of Hope, Fetal Loss Group, and Mount St. Vincent's Children's Home.

We have many volunteers who participate in our endeavors. We assemble kits with pre-cut fabrics and instructions to hand out to volunteers each month at our meetings. When they have finished a top it is returned and quilted.

The Denver Metro Area Long Arm Quilters and other long-arm volunteers throughout the Denver area are machine quilting our charitable quilts. Because of their efforts, the quality of our quilts far exceeds most other charitable quilt organizations and we are able to get a lot more done throughout the year.

Our goal is to finish and distribute 50 quilts per year. The charitable quilts committee is funded by fabric donations and a raffle quilt each year.

Contact Cheryl Walters  at 303-937-0146 if you would like to help sew a kit together or add a binding.

Little Quilts

The program is still going strong, but not as strong as I would like it to.  Anyone who would like to donate novelty children’s 100% cotton fabric I will gladly take it.  We have been using small pieces but I really don’t have any use for pieces that I can’t at least get a 2 ½” square from.  Anyone who would like to cut their fabric ahead of time, just pick a dimension such as 4 ½” or 6 ½”, we will make it work.  Also, I am still looking for 2 ½” strips by WOF to make Chinese coin quilts.  When you cut your strips for Cheryl, I would love to have your extras.  I will not group these by color so just get them to me.

Most of the work being done for this program is being done by the SPOOLS group.  I want to thank them for giving of their time to keep the production going.

I do want you to know that any unfinished tops or blocks will be put to good use.  Anyone who would like to make an entire quilt is more than welcome to.  The sized that I am working with are as follows:  No wider than 40” (so I don’t have to piece the backing), the quilt should not be longer than 54”.  If they are smaller it is OK.

My goal is to start kitting a few quilts.  Please let me know if you would like to tackle my directions, get creative on your own or just sew pieces together. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
